Abductees Mothers Association statement demanding releasing journalists detained at Houthi prisons

Conventions and agreements have passed by our abducted sons' case with no progress on the ground. Consequently, our sons have been suffering from the horrible detention conditions at Houthi prisons. Among those abductees are the journalists who have been imprisoned for years while there has been intentional disregard prolonging their cases and no serious actions has taken to release them.
10 journalists have been enduring horribly inhuman suffering. Medically, they are, currently, suffering from various chronic diseases, renal malfunctions, and joint and spine pain, all caused by the brutal torture they have been subjected to since their abduction by Houthi armed group on June 9th, 2015. Additionally, since their abduction, they have been subjected to forced disappearance while Waheed Al-Soufi, a journalist, is still forcibly disappeared until this day.
Moreover, the abducted journalists have been repeatedly subjected to extortions and violations. The most recent violation was carrying out a null and void trial which led to issuing execution judgments upon four of them, Abdulkhaleq Amran, Akram Al-Waleedi, Tawfiq Al-Mansouri, and Hareth Humaid.
At Abductees' Mothers Association, we repeat our condemnation and disapproval of the constant violations abducted journalists face and unfairly prolonging their case, and hold Houthi armed group responsible for their lives and safety.
We call upon the international community, the United Nations, and the negotiation teams convening in Geneva to release the abducted journalists as well as all abductees and forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained persons unconditionally. We demand them to quit using their humanitarian case as political leverage to be manipulated by both parties, and to stop exchanging war prisoners with abducted civilians as it is a grave violation against civilians' right of living freely with no restrictions or threats, resulting in exile and displacement of the abductee and his family.

Issued by Abductees' Mothers Association.
October 7th, 2020.
