On Thursday morning, the Abductees’ Mothers Association held a protest in front of the Attorney General’s Office in Aden, calling for the disclosure of the fate of 62 forcibly disappeared individuals and the release of 15 detainees in the governorate as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
In a statement, the mothers urged authorities to act swiftly to free their sons before the month of mercy and forgiveness begins. They highlighted the pain and hardship families endure during Ramadan, a time traditionally marked by togetherness, as the absence of their loved ones deepens their suffering.
The Abductees’ Mothers Association demanded authorities reveal the whereabouts of the forcibly disappeared, allow family visits, and ensure their well-being. The association also called for an end to arbitrary detention and enforced disappearances, which violate domestic laws and international human rights conventions.
Additionally, the association urged authorities to hold those responsible for these violations accountable and to prevent future occurrences. It called for the immediate release of all abducted, detained, and forcibly disappeared individuals.
Addressing the Attorney General, the association called for urgent action to end this prolonged humanitarian crisis, which has persisted for years without serious intervention to secure justice for victims and their families. It also urged human rights organizations to intensify pressure on authorities to achieve justice and halt further violations.
The association emphasized that Ramadan is a month of mercy and humanity, yet for years, their sons have spent it behind bars and in secret detention centers, deprived of free and dignified life.
