Abductees’ Mothers Association Funds Five Local Initiatives to Reduce Violations Against Women in Taiz

As a continuation of the dialogue sessions held last June in five districts of Taiz, and within the activities of the project “Protecting Civil and Women’s Spaces and Promoting Women’s Role in the Peace Process” supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the United Nations Peace Support Facility (PSF), the Abductees’ Mothers Association funded an initiative to equip the unit specialized in cybercrimes and cyber extortion at the Criminal Investigation Department in Taiz with technical and operational tools.

The initiative included preparing the cybercrime unit to receive women’s complaints related to cybercrimes and assigning a female officer from the Women’s Police, within the Cyber Extortion Department, to receive and investigate these complaints.

It also provided the necessary electronic equipment and furniture for the unit and trained specialists on the relevant digital programs, in order to help reduce violations against women activists and those working in the field of peacebuilding.

In a statement, Colonel Jamil Al-Salhi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department in Taiz, expressed his gratitude to the Abductees’ Mothers Association for providing the equipment and tools for the cybercrime unit, stressing that this initiative will be of great benefit and will significantly enhance the department’s work and efficiency.

For his part, Major Muadh Al-Samit, Head of the Cybercrime Unit, confirmed that his team had received a training workshop on a number of online programs that will contribute to uncovering certain cases, tracking perpetrators of blackmail against women and youth, and raising public awareness about cybercrimes and cyber extortion.

Through these initiatives, the Association seeks to contribute to reducing violations committed against female activists both online and on the ground, while also strengthening women’s civil spaces and promoting social cohesion.
