As part of its wide-reaching campaign “Save the Abductees,” the abductees’ mothers association, together with the joint legal team, visited several judicial and security bodies in Ma’rib to advocate for the rights and release of abductees.
The multi-day visit aims to monitor prison conditions, assess how male and female detainees are treated, and discuss ways to improve their conditions while ensuring that laws are properly enforced.
During the visit, the association and the joint team held meetings with the Chief Prosecutor of the Court of Appeal, the Director of Ma’rib Police, the Pretrial Detention Facility, and the Criminal Investigation Department.
Discussions with the relevant authorities addressed the legal frameworks and procedures governing the management of prisons and detention centers, along with mechanisms for oversight and supervision. The focus was on ensuring compliance with national prison regulations as well as international human rights conventions, treaties, and standards.
Judge Aref Al-Mekhlafi, Chief Prosecutor of the Court of Appeal in Ma’rib, noted that the association’s repeated visits to the Political Security prison had brought about significant changes to family visitation procedures, turning them into a regular practice after they had previously faced obstacles.
The association also commended the prosecution’s cooperation in its recent initiative to secure the release of all female detainees from the Political Security prison in the governorate. It expressed hope for the same level of responsiveness to all its initiatives and campaigns calling for the unconditional release of all abductees held by all parties.
