Today, we rally by the Court of Appeal to demand releasing 41 abductees held at Be’er Ahmed Prison and uncovering the fate of 37 individuals who have been unlawfully forcibly disappeared for more than 4 years. It is a violation of the Yemeni law which forbids the prosecution from detaining an individual for more than a week unless a specialized court orders otherwise. The law compels the prosecution to immediately release a person whose detention was processed in manners contradicting with the law or his remand exceeded the limits the law stated. Yet, abductees have been detained for as long as three years.
At Abductees’ Mothers Association, we hold all competent authorities responsible for the lives and safety of our abducted and forcibly disappeared sons, and call upon all human rights organizations, locally and internationally, to step up the pressure to grant our sons their legal rights, and to support our cause until all abducted and forcibly disappeared sons are released.

Mothers of abductees demand releasing abductees and forcibly disappeared individuals.
Mothers of abductees and arbitrarily arrested persons demanded this morning, in Aden, releasing 41 abductees held at Be’er Ahmed Prison and uncovering the fate of 37 individuals who had been unlawfully forcibly disappeared for more than 4 years.
In their rally statement, mothers explained that it was a violation of the Yemeni law which forbids the prosecution from detaining an individual for more than a week unless a specialized court orders otherwise, and that the law compels the prosecution to immediately release a person whose detention was processed in manners contradicting with the law or his remand exceeded the limits the law stated. Yet, abductees had been detained for as long as three years.
The association’s statement held all competent authorities responsible for the lives and safety of their abducted and forcibly disappeared sons, and called upon all human rights organizations, locally and internationally, to step up the pressure to grant their sons their legal rights, and to support their cause until all abducted and forcibly disappeared sons are released.
Amidst overwhelming delight and heading the meeting delegations;
Abductees Mothers Association meets hundreds of its released sons at Seyoun Airport.
Abductees’ Mothers Association greeted, today, 223 released abductees who had been detained at Houthi prisons for five years and included in the recent Geneva Agreement, which was signed under the auspices of the United Nations.
In the greeting ceremony, which was overwhelmed with joy and happiness, head of Abductees’ Mothers Association, Amat Alsalam Al-Haj, made a speech in which she said “While women around the world are celebrating United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, we celebrate this achievement, as mothers’ happiness, today, is priceless.” She congratulated the abductees and their families on their freedom and their return to their families, and expressed her optimism of releasing all abductees from all prisons this year.
Al-Haj stated that the association carries the responsibility of easing the suffering of families outside prisons and abductees inside prisons. She explained that the association’s efforts to achieve peace by organizing human rights events, holding meetings with local and international human rights organizations, and peacefully rallying by prisons, which all eventually led to the day that would be forever engraved in the memory of mothers, wives, and daughters.
She extended the association’s gratitude to the negotiation committee, UN Special Envoy office, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Office of the High Commissioner Human Rights, and all activists, journalists and those who supported mothers during their search for their sons.
Al-Haj demanded an urgent and complete release for all abducted civilians unconditionally, as the association repeatedly refused using the abductees humanitarian case as a political leverage, and called the UN, the Security Council, international human rights organizations, and activists to continue stepping up the pressure on all parties until all abductees are free.
She concluded her speech by demanding the government and local authorities to fulfill their responsibilities by rehabilitating and supporting the released abductees.
The release itself was a result of the negotiations between the government and Houthi armed group, which took place last month in Geneva leading to the release of 1080 abductees, detainees, and war prisoners from all parties.
