Abductees’ Mothers Association Welcomes the Ma’rib Authorities’ Response to Release 13 Female Prisoners

The Abductees’ Mothers Association has welcomed the response of local authorities in Ma’rib Governorate to its initiative, Women for Freedom and Peace, which urged all parties to release detained women. As a result, the authorities have taken a promising and positive step by releasing 13 female prisoners.

Additionally, the authorities released Yusra Al-Shater following an official memorandum submitted by the Abductees’ Mothers Association, calling for her release. The Association had met with Al-Shater’s family and conveyed their suffering to the relevant authorities.

Previously, the Association engaged with several local government officials, presenting its initiative’s memorandum to the Public Prosecutor, the Political Security Organization, the Central Prison Administration, and the Security Directorate of the governorate. These meetings aimed to discuss the release of detained women, during which the Association received assurances of swift action.

However, on the other side of the conflict, the Houthi group has not yet responded to the initiative and, despite ongoing mediation efforts, has failed to release any detained women.

At the start of the new year, the Abductees’ Mothers Association launched the Women for Freedom and Peace initiative, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained women.

In recent months, the Association has also conducted field and recreational visits to the women’s prison in Ma’rib, where it engaged with prison officials and provided psychological support programs to help detainees cope with stress. Additionally, the Association conducted legal awareness sessions and distributed essential supplies for women and children as part of its broader efforts to support detained women.

Furthermore, the Abductees’ Mothers Association has launched a hotline for reporting the detention of any woman due to the armed conflict in Yemen, regardless of her background or affiliations.
