Association of Abductees’ Mothers Meets with ICRC Protection Officer to Discuss Conditions of Detainees and Released Individuals

The Association of Abductees’ Mothers held a meeting last Thursday, with the Protection Officer of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as part of its ongoing efforts to advocate for abductees and the forcibly disappeared, and to highlight their suffering and humanitarian needs.

During the meeting, Ms. Sabah Humaid, Head of the Association’s branch in Ma’rib Governorate, spoke with Mr. Ligo, the ICRC Protection Officer in Yemen, about the conditions of detainees and those recently released, as well as the humanitarian, psychological, and social challenges they face after their release.

The Association also presented their most urgent needs, including medical care, psychological support, and programs for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Mr. Ligo expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Association and affirmed the ICRC’s interest in including this group in its upcoming humanitarian projects and programs, especially those who remain in detention or are still forcibly disappeared.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Sabah Humaid expressed her gratitude to the Protection Officer for his positive engagement and readiness to collaborate, praising the ICRC’s role in alleviating the suffering of victims and their families.

The Abductees’ Mothers Association reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with humanitarian and international organizations to raise the voices of the mothers and the abductees, and to demand the release of all those held arbitrarily and an end to their ongoing suffering.
