Awareness Activity for Female Inmates as Part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

The Abductees Mothers Association, in cooperation with the Wujood Organization for Development and Peace, carried out an awareness activity titled “Violence Against Women in the Digital Space” inside the women’s prison in Ma’rib Governorate, as part of the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

The activity comes within the efforts of both organizations to raise awareness among women and girls about safe behavior in the digital space and to reduce the risks of online blackmail, one of the most widespread forms of violence in the digital age, which exposes women and girls to serious psychological and social threats.

The event included comprehensive awareness sessions on how to secure digital accounts, safe use of social media platforms, and the proper steps to take when facing online extortion, with an emphasis on the importance of reporting incidents, not complying with extortionists, and avoiding the sharing of any sensitive information.

The activity also featured a psychological support session aimed at strengthening the inmates’ sense of internal safety, equipping them with skills to manage fear and anxiety, and providing simple exercises to reduce stress, helping inmates regain confidence and the ability to face challenges.

Representatives of both organizations stressed that protecting women in the digital space is a shared responsibility that requires raising awareness and providing support, especially for women and girls who may be more vulnerable to exploitation or online violence.

The activity concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment to continue providing psychological and social support programs and awareness activities inside and outside the prison, contributing to empowering women and enhancing their ability to navigate the digital space safely and confidently.
