In alignment with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Abductees’ Mothers Association in Taiz, in partnership with the Center for Strategic Studies to Support Women and Children, concluded a two-day awareness program on Wednesday, November 27. The program, held on November 26-27, focused on female inmates at Taiz Central Prison.
On the first day, Prof. Anisa Dokom, a mental health professor at Taiz University, led a session titled “The Journey to Recovery.” She discussed the requirements for recovery, the obstacles involved, and how to begin the healing process. The session also included practical activities and recreational exercises to engage the inmates, alongside competitions that created a lively and joyful atmosphere.
The day was attended by the morale officer of the Women’s Police Department, and it concluded with the inmates sharing stories and writings.
On the second day, attorney Raghda Al-Maqatari, a member of the Lawyers Syndicate, conducted a legal awareness session. She listened to the inmates’ concerns and educated them about their rights under both Yemeni and international law.
The program concluded with the donation of a library to the inmates, containing cultural, educational, and psychological books, as well as children’s stories, provided by the Abductees’ Mothers Association.
Ms. Asmaa Al-Ra’ai, Director of the Abductees’ Mothers Association in Taiz, expressed her appreciation for the inmates’ active participation and thanked the prison administration for their cooperation and warm reception.
This program is part of ongoing efforts to support female inmates, raise awareness about the risks of violence and crime, and promote their legal and psychological rights.
