This Thursday morning, the Abductees’ Mothers Association held a protest in front of the Al-Maashiq Palace in the interim capital, Aden. The protest was in response to the increasing rate of arrests and enforced disappearances of individuals from the southern provinces, as well as the escalating violations against civilians.
The association is demanding the disclosure of the fate of 62 forcibly disappeared individuals and 15 arbitrarily detained by the Security Belt Forces of the Southern Transitional Council. The latest case involves the enforced disappearance of the abductee, “Ali Ashal Al-Ja’adani”, who was kidnapped on June 12, 2024, and whose fate remains unknown.
The association holds the Security Belt Forces of the Southern Transitional Council fully responsible for the life and safety of the abducted “Al-Ja’adani” and all other forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained individuals.
During the protest, the mothers of the abducted approached the Aden Security Administration in Khormaksar to meet with the Deputy Director of Security, demanding action to uncover the fate of the forcibly disappeared individuals.
The association calls on the Presidential Council to shoulder their humanitarian and legal responsibilities in revealing the whereabouts of their forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained sons and to ensure the immediate release of all abductees. They urge the council to press for a swift resolution to this humanitarian issue and to end the suffering.
Additionally, they call upon the United Nations, the UN envoy, and human rights organizations to address this humanitarian plight and pressure all parties to ensure the release of all abductees, arbitrarily detained individuals, and forcibly disappeared persons.
The association emphasizes that ending the suffering of the abductees and their families by securing their release is a crucial step towards building peace and restoring trust among all citizens. They assert that achieving justice and respecting human rights must be central to any negotiations.
