“We welcome Eid with tears of pain, not joy…”
With these words, the Abductees’ Mothers Association staged a protest to express the deep pain and suffering families endure with the arrival of Eid, as abduction campaigns by the Houthi group escalate. In recent days, the group has abducted at least 13 civilians in Hodeida, including a female university student, and taken them to unknown locations.
During the protest, the mothers emphasized that the continued wave of abductions constitutes a blatant violation of human rights and reflects a systematic policy of repression and restrictions on civil liberties. These violations are indiscriminate, affecting both men and women, and have dangerously escalated in recent times without any legal or moral restraint.
The Association held the Houthi group fully responsible for the lives and safety of all abductees, especially the abducted student.
They called on the international community, as well as human rights and women’s organizations, to fulfill their responsibilities by exerting urgent pressure for the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees. The Association also demanded a transparent international investigation into the grave abuses committed against civilians in Hodeida and other areas, and called for practical steps to stop these violations and ensure accountability for the perpetrators.
The Association warned that continued silence in the face of such violations, particularly when they target women, only encourages abusive parties to persist in their repressive practices, further deepening the suffering of Yemeni men and women.
