The Abductees’ Mothers Association and mothers of the forcibly disappeared in Aden Governorate held a protest today in front of the Governorate building in Al-Mualla, calling for the disclosure of the fate of all forcibly disappeared persons who have been missing for more than ten years, before any measures are taken to close prisons.
The Association stressed the urgent need to identify all secret prisons, conduct on-site inspections, fully disclose the names of those who were held there among the forcibly disappeared, ensure their safety, secure their release, and document evidence that some parties are attempting to erase in order to conceal the truth.
The Association also called for independent and transparent investigations into all cases of enforced disappearance and torture, and for the accountability and prosecution of everyone proven to be involved in operating these prisons or committing violations within them, without allowing any official to evade responsibility.
The Association further urged the Governor of Aden to make the issue of abductees and the forcibly disappeared a top priority within his mandate, to work seriously to end the suffering of victims and halt the prolonged anguish of their families, and to take concrete steps that reflect genuine political will to deliver justice and provide redress.
The Association renewed its demands for the release of all forcibly disappeared persons, their return to the arms of their families and loved ones, and the clearing of prisons of innocent detainees, in accordance with national law and international human rights conventions.
