Protest Statement by the Abductees’ Mothers AssociationCondemning the Ongoing Delays in Addressing the Abductees’ Case and Calling for Their Release

Abductees’ Mothers Association condemns the ongoing abductions and enforced disappearances of innocent civilians, including human rights activists (both male and female) and women, without any legal or legitimate justification.

We strongly denounce these grave human rights violations, which constitute a flagrant breach of national and international laws, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

According to the Association’s statistics, 815 individuals remain abducted, in addition to 164 forcibly disappeared, in prisons scattered throughout the governorates of the Republic, with a greater concentration in areas under the control of the Houthi group. This occurs amidst a shameful international silence and a failure to achieve justice for these victims and their families.

We emphasize that the continued detention of dozens of women without legal justification is a double crime that violates the values of our society and our humanitarian traditions, as well as international conventions that criminalize violence against women and attacks on their rights.

We denounce the international neglect and silence regarding the abductees’ case without a radical and decisive solution, and the attempts to politicize this humanitarian file, whose resolution would establish the foundations for peace in Yemen.

We, at Abductees’ Mothers Association, demand the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons. We hold the Houthi group, primarily, and all violating parties fully responsible for their lives and safety.

We also call on the UN Envoy and all human rights and humanitarian organizations to work with us and exert pressure to advance the abductees’ case internationally, ensure the accountability of the perpetrators, and compel the violating parties to implement international agreements and resolutions related to their release and reparations for them and their families.

We further emphasize the need to stop violations against women and female human rights activists, and ensure the accountability of those responsible for such crimes which threaten the dignity of Yemeni women.

We reiterate our commitment to continue this human rights struggle until freedom is achieved for every abducted, detained, and forcibly disappeared person, prisons are emptied, and dignity is restored to every victim of abduction, arbitrary detention, and enforced disappearance.
