Statement from the Abductees Mothers Association Demanding the Disclosure of the Fate of 62 Forcibly Disappeared Persons and Their Release Along with 15 Arbitrarily Detained from the Southern Governorates

Today, we stand in protest against the increasing rate of arrests and enforced disappearances of individuals from the southern governorates and the escalating violations against civilians. The number of forcibly disappeared from the southern governorates has reached 62, and there are 15 arbitrarily detained individuals by the Security Belt Forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council. The latest incident involves the enforced disappearance of the abducted Ali Ashal Al-Ja’adani, who was kidnapped on June 12, 2024, and whose fate remains unknown. We have long suffered from the constant anxiety about the unknown fate of our sons. We hold the Security Belt Forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council fully responsible for the life and safety of the abductee, “Al-Ja’adani”, and all those forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained.

We also call on the Presidential Council to assume their humanitarian and legal responsibilities by disclosing the places of detention of these forcibly disappeared individuals and ensuring their immediate release along with the arbitrarily detained and all abductees. We urge them to press for an urgent resolution to this humanitarian issue and to end this suffering.

We appeal to the United Nations, represented by the UN envoy, and human rights organizations to address this humanitarian suffering and exert pressure on all parties to ensure the release of all abductees and arbitrarily detained persons held unlawfully, as well as those forcibly disappeared. Ending the suffering of these victims and their families is a crucial step towards building peace and restoring trust among all citizens of the nation.

We emphasize that achieving justice and respecting human rights must be at the heart of any negotiations, and we call for an end to all violations and abuses against civilians in Yemen.
