Statement of the Abductees’ Mothers Association regarding the call for implementing the Muscat Agreement

The Abductees’ Mothers Association calls on the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, and Ms. Radwa Nour from the Special Envoy’s Office – Detainees and Prisoners Affairs Section, to continue their valued efforts to end the suffering of abductees, forcibly disappeared individuals, and their families, and to exert pressure on the Yemeni parties to adhere to the scheduled release of 2,900 abductees from both sides, based on the outcomes of recent meetings on the prisoners and detainees exchange file held in Muscat.

The Association expresses deep concern over the announcement by the Head of Prisoners Affairs for the Houthi group, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, that the lists of prisoners and detainees covered by the agreement will not be ready on the 27th of this month. This announcement has caused a new psychological shock for the abductees and their families, who have been waiting for more than ten years for the moment of reuniting with their children and ending their prolonged suffering.

The Abductees’ Mothers Association emphasizes that it has submitted final and updated lists of abductees to the Special Envoy’s Office for all parties involved, and that these lists were prepared and reviewed with complete accuracy and transparency.

Accordingly, the Association affirms its full readiness to move forward with the implementation steps and to cooperate with the International Committee of the Red Cross to facilitate the exchange process as soon as the agreed timelines are confirmed.

The Association also hopes that the Special Envoy’s Office will apply the necessary pressure on all parties to ensure the lists are verified and to accelerate the implementation procedures, thereby alleviating the long-standing humanitarian suffering.

The Association stresses the necessity of releasing all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons held by all parties, clearing the prisons, and promptly implementing the outcomes of the Muscat Agreement without any delay.
