The Abductees’ Mothers Association (AMA), in partnership with the Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR/ICAN), has concluded a training course on “Digital Extortion and Digital Security” as part of the “She Builds Peace” campaign in Ma’rib governorate.
The training targeted a group of women and female activists with the aim of increasing their awareness of the risks of digital extortion and cybercrime, strengthening their knowledge and skills in digital security, and equipping them to protect their personal data and online accounts while using digital technologies and social media safely.
The course combined theoretical instruction with practical exercises and covered a range of key topics, including cybersecurity concepts, digital extortion and its various forms, cybercrime, social engineering, methods for preventing digital threats, smartphone security, data encryption and protection, the fundamentals of digital security, password management, two-factor authentication, privacy protection, safe internet browsing, and the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). It also provided guidance on the appropriate steps to take and reporting mechanisms in cases of digital extortion, online threats, or cyberattacks.
The training also featured hands-on exercises and interactive discussions that reinforced participants’ learning, helped translate theoretical concepts into practical skills applicable in their daily lives, and contributed to improving digital protection and reducing exposure to online risks.
Participants emphasized the importance of such training programmes in raising digital awareness, particularly amid the growing challenges and threats in the digital space. They praised the course for effectively combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, enabling them to better protect themselves and their digital information.
The training forms part of the Abductees’ Mothers Association’s ongoing efforts, in partnership with the Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR/ICAN), to strengthen women’s capacities in digital security, empower them to play a greater role in building a safer and more peaceful society, and advance the objectives of the “She Builds Peace” campaign.
