Through one of its initiatives, the Abductees’ Mothers Association equipped the Criminal Investigation Unit specialized in cybercrime and cyber extortion at the Al-Mafa’ar Security Department in Taiz.
The initiative included renovating the office ceiling, providing the necessary equipment and furniture, and training specialists in relevant digital programs, with the aim of preventing violations committed against women, activists, and peacebuilders.
Lieutenant Colonel Fares Abdulhalim Al-Zubairi, Director of Al-Mafa’ar Security Department, praised the Abductees’ Mothers Association for their important support to the security sector and their efforts in strengthening the Cybercrime Unit. He noted that reports of cybercrimes are continuously increasing in number, complexity, and methods, particularly those targeting women, which requires security agencies to constantly develop their tools and strategies to effectively combat such crimes.
Al-Zubairi also expressed his gratitude to the Association for helping establish a dedicated office for cybercrimes within Al-Mafa’ar Security Department, in addition to supplying the required equipment and furniture, training specialists in relevant electronic programs, and renovating the office ceiling. He emphasized that this will contribute significantly to combating these crimes and preventing their spread within society.
These initiatives are part of the project “Protecting Civil and Women’s Spaces and Promoting Women’s Role in the Peace Process” supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the UN Peace Support Facility (PSF).
