As part of the “Save the Abductees” campaign, the Chairwoman of the Abductees’ Mothers Association, Amat Al-Salam Al-Hajj, handed over an official letter to the new EU Ambassador, Patrick Simonnet. The letter urged him to take action in advancing the detainees’ file, stressing that it is a purely humanitarian issue that cannot be delayed or politicized, and to pressure the relevant parties to release those who have been unjustly held behind bars for more than ten years.
The Association also called for stronger support of UN and international mechanisms to hold perpetrators of human rights violations in Yemen accountable, particularly in cases of enforced disappearance and unlawful detention. It further emphasized the need to ensure that the issue of abductees and the forcibly disappeared remains a top priority in the EU’s support for peace efforts in Yemen.
The letter was delivered during a meeting that brought together representatives of civil society organizations in Aden with the new Ambassador to review the state of human rights work. The Association stressed the importance of continuing to support Yemeni civil society organizations that monitor and document these violations and amplify the voices of victims.
