Abductees’ Mothers Association in Taiz Completes Five Local Initiatives to Combat Violations and Online Extortion Against Women

The Abductees’ Mothers Association has successfully concluded funding for five local initiatives in Taiz city, including the completion of an initiative to equip the dedicated room in the Cybercrime Department at the Shamayateen District Security Administration with technical and electronic equipment.

During a visit by the association’s delegation, Mr. Abdulaziz Radman Al-Shaibani, Director General of Shamayateen District, confirmed that they had received the cyber extortion unit. He emphasized that this support represents a qualitative addition to the Cybercrime Department, enhancing its capacities and contributing to investigations and arrests of perpetrators involved in extortion and online fraud targeting women and girls.

Major Moadh Al-Ma’mari, Deputy Director of Security of Shamayateen District, also thanked the association for supporting the district’s security administration by providing the office space and equipment used in the Cybercrime and Online Extortion Department. He stressed that these tools will assist the administration in successfully conducting investigations related to online extortion.

It is worth noting that this initiative is part of the activities derived from dialogue sessions conducted last June, within the framework of the project “Protecting Civil and Women’s Spaces and Promoting Women’s Role in the Peace Process,” supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Facility (PSF).

Through these initiatives in the districts of Al-Qahira, Al-Mudhaffar, Sala, Al-Ma’afir, and Shamayateen, the association has aimed to reduce online extortion against women, prevent violations against activists both online and offline, and promote women’s civil space and community cohesion.
