In recognition of the importance of raising awareness on human rights, particularly women’s rights, the Women National Committee in Taiz, in collaboration with its Development Department, organized two specialized training courses for its members. The trainings focused on “Monitoring and Documentation and Conflict Sensitivity” and “Protection Mechanisms and Human Rights.”
These trainings aimed to promote the principles of peace within communities, enhance preventative measures against violations targeting vulnerable groups, and address the widespread rise in societal violence. They also provided participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to support the protection of affected individuals and reduce the risk of violations.
Participants emphasized that the trainings strengthened their ability to advocate for legal accountability, defend their rights, and reject all forms of violations, whether occurring in times of crisis or under normal circumstances. The sessions also highlighted the importance of asserting one’s rights when denied and protecting them from all forms of abuse.
Participants also addressed the fear many individuals feel when claiming their rights, whether due to fear of losing employment, social stigma, or harassment. This fear often results in the erosion and violation of those rights. However, through awareness, monitoring, documentation, and consistent advocacy, individuals can shift from fear to confidence, paving the way for the protection of fundamental human rights.
It is important to note that these trainings were implemented with funding from the Abductees’ Mothers Association (AMA) as part of the project “Protecting Civil and Women’s Spaces and Promoting Women’s Role in the Peace Process,” supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the United Nations Peace Support Facility (UN PSF).
