Abductees’ Mothers Association concluded a two-day awareness program (November 28–29) in Marib, aimed at empowering female prisoners in the Marib Central Prison. This initiative coincided with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
On the first day, Ms. Sabah Sweid delivered a session titled “Psychological and Social Awareness: Understanding Crime and Recovery.” The session focused on the causes and consequences of criminal behavior and provided strategies for personal recovery.
To uplift the inmates’ spirits, interactive activities such as recreational competitions and art workshops were conducted. These sessions offered a therapeutic outlet and created a joyful atmosphere. The prisoners also exhibited their handmade crafts and products, fostering self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment.
On the second day, lawyer Olfat Al-Rifa’i led a legal awareness session. She engaged with the inmates, listening to their cases and educating them about their rights under Yemeni and international law. The session included motivational and recreational activities, promoting a sense of hope and community among the prisoners.
The campaign concluded with the donation of a library to the prison, featuring a selection of cultural, educational, and psychological books, as well as children’s stories. This initiative was a gift from the Abductees’ Mothers Association.
The program reflects the Association’s dedication to supporting incarcerated women, raising awareness about the dangers of violence and crime, and advocating for their legal and psychological well-being.
