Before Ramadan… Abductees’ Mothers Call for Disclosure of Their Sons’ Fate and an End to Years of Absence

The Abductees’ Mothers Association is urging the internationally recognized Yemeni government to expedite the implementation of presidential directives regarding the forcibly disappeared, with priority given to urgently revealing their fate before undertaking any other measures. This call comes especially in light of the recent discovery of several secret prisons now found empty, which has caused fear and panic among the families of the forcibly disappeared, who are confronted with an unknown fate that intensifies their suffering and deepens their anxiety for their loved ones.

Seeing these prisons empty without knowing where the forcibly disappeared have been transferred has been a painful shock for families, who have long demanded that the authorities disclose the fate of their sons and bring an end to years of pain, waiting, and psychological and social suffering that have burdened them for more than a decade.

The families also call on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which supports the Yemeni government in its efforts to restore stability in the country, to make the issue of abductees and forcibly disappeared persons a priority in this current phase, which requires urgent and serious solutions. They stress that addressing this humanitarian issue and revealing the fate of the forcibly disappeared is a true test of the authorities’ intentions to establish security, open a new chapter of stability and justice, and build trust within society. The families place their greatest hopes and prayers on seeing Ramadan arrive with their sons returned to their homes, family tables complete at iftar, and warmth restored to homes that have lacked joy for more than ten years, after secret prisons deprived them of their loved ones and denied them their most basic human rights.

The Abductees’ Mothers Association renews its demands for the immediate disclosure of the fate of all forcibly disappeared persons, their release, accountability for all those involved in these crimes, prevention of their recurrence, and redress for the victims and their families, in accordance with law and principles of justice.
