Report regarding forced disappearance of Khaledah Al-Asbahi

In Taiz, Abductees’ Mothers Association has received a report from the daughter of the forcibly disappeared 57-year-old abductee, Khaledah Mohammed Ahmed Al-Asbahi, stating that Khaledah has been forcibly disappeared for more than two years. She was abducted at 8 p.m on May 11th, 2018 in Sana’a while she was on the way from hospital with her grandson. Her grandson’s father was contacted the same night by armed Houthi men to take his son him. The abductors refused to speak of the Khaledah’s whereabouts and fate.

Khaledah’s daughter said “After my mother’s abduction, armed officers from Political Security in Sana’a searched my brother’s house, where my mom was staying. A month later, they abducted my brother, Maher. He was interrogated with and tortured by suspension and beating. 15 days after that, my brother’s house was stormed and his wife and son were arrested. A cousin of mine was at the house then and was arrested too. She had a suitcase containing my mother’s property ownership documents. All three were taken to my brother’s detention centre. Houthis claimed that the suitcase contained important documents. Despite their promises of releasing all of them after verifying the documents. They only released my brother, his family, and my cousin. They refused to release my mother and to return the documents. For two years, we have been living in great worry, waiting and hoping to see my mother.”

At Abductees’ Mothers Association, we have received the report of continuing the forced disappearance of Khaledah Al-Asbahi. We hold Houthi armed group responsible for the life and safety of Khaledah and demand them to uncover her fate and grant her the humanitarian rights stated and protected by Yemeni constitution and international conventions.

We call upon the United Nations, its Special Envoy to Yemen, and all activists to create the necessary pressure in order to release Khaledah and all female abductees unconditionally.
