Statement by the Abductees’ Mothers Association condemning the campaign of abductions targeting civilians in Dhamar Governorate

The Abductees’ Mothers Association is deeply concerned by the recent wave of mass arrests carried out by the Houthi group in Dhamar Governorate over the past several days, during which dozens of civilians were abducted and taken to unknown locations.

According to local sources, the campaign has targeted community figures, mosque imams, educators, doctors, and academics, in a blatant violation of human rights and a clear breach of the Yemeni Constitution and international laws that criminalize abduction, arbitrary detention, and enforced disappearance.

We, at the Abductees’ Mothers Association, strongly condemn these repressive practices and the ongoing abduction campaigns that have continued since September across several Yemeni governorates. We hold the Houthi group fully responsible for the safety and well-being of all abducted and forcibly disappeared individuals.

We call for their immediate and unconditional release and for an end to these violations, which instill fear among civilians and exacerbate the suffering of families.

We also urge the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and all local and international human rights organizations to take urgent action to document these violations, pressure the Houthi group to release all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons, and ensure that such abuses are not repeated.

Furthermore, we call on the families and relatives of the abducted and disappeared to document all violations committed against their loved ones in support of legal accountability efforts; to ensure justice, prevent impunity, and uphold the rights of victims.
