Abductees’ Mothers Association is following with deep alarm the ordeal suffered by our abducted sons inside the Security and Intelligence Prison in Sana’a during the recent bombing. They endured moments of sheer terror, facing death directly as the prison was engulfed in smoke and bomb powder, all while being completely deprived of any safety procedures or first aid. They were only later permitted to go outside to breathe clean air in a tight roofless room called “Shamasi.”
In reports received from several families, their sons were tragically left inside the wards despite the heavy shelling and dense smoke, without being evacuated or protected. Furthermore, all visits were banned during this preceding period, compounding the families’ profound anxiety and fear for the fate and safety of their loved ones.
This represents a clear violation of the most fundamental human and legal rights, and a blatant contradiction of International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Conventions, which mandate the protection of detainees’ lives during armed conflict.
The Association also expresses its outrage at the misleading media campaigns launched by the Houthi armed group, falsely and slanderously accusing the abductees of being “agents of Israel.” This is a cynical attempt to justify the gross neglect and failure of duty and to divert attention from the group’s direct responsibility for endangering the lives of the abductees both during and after the bombardment.
We hold the Houthi armed group fully responsible for the safety and lives of all abductees in their prisons. We demand that the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) intervene immediately to inspect their health and psychological conditions, and ensure their protection from any future violations.
We assert that the dignity and lives of the abductees are not a card for political or media bargaining. This is a righteous humanitarian cause that demands an end to this suffering and guarantees the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees.
