In a dangerous transgression and a clear insistence on continuing abductions against civilians and UN staff, the Houthi armed group raided the residence of foreign UN employees in Sana’a. They abducted approximately 20 staff members after forcing them down to the ground floor of the building, and confiscated their mobile phones and personal computers.
We, at Abductees’ Mothers Association, condemn in the strongest possible terms the actions being carried out by the Houthi armed group, particularly amidst calls for the release of abductees and moving toward genuine peace. This confirms that the group is engaged in a dangerous escalation against humanitarian workers in areas under its control, ultimately leading to the obstruction of all necessary relief work given the country’s economic situation.
These perilous practices and the clear defiance of all international laws and conventions necessitate serious measures by the United Nations against the Houthi armed group. Such measures must result in the release of both the UN staff and civilians, and prevent further abduction operations.
We, at Abductees’ Mothers Association, hold the Houthi armed group fully responsible for the safety and lives of the UN employees and demand their immediate and unconditional release.
