We, the Abductees’ Mothers Association, express our deep concern and strong condemnation of the wide and systematic campaign of arbitrary arrests launched by the Houthi group in recent days. These arrests targeted leaders and members of several Yemeni political parties in governorates under their control.
We condemn the abduction of more than 100 members of the General People’s Congress Party, including Mr. Ghazi Al-Ahwal, the Party’s Secretary-General in Sana’a, along with several of his companions, who were taken to unknown locations without any contact with their families or lawyers.
We also condemn the abduction of Dr. Rami Abdulwahab Mahmoud, Head of External Relations of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party, who was taken on August 3, 2025, after being stopped on a public street in Sana’a.
We further denounce the abduction campaigns in Ibb and Hodeidah. According to our records, 163 cases of abduction were documented in Ibb, and 24 cases in Hodeidah.
This dangerous escalation is part of systematic violations committed by the Houthi group against peaceful political activity, freedom of organization, and freedom of expression. It is an attempt to eliminate political life from any opposing or independent voice in areas under their control, threatening national values and political pluralism that Yemenis have long struggled to protect.
We affirm that abduction is a humanitarian crime and a clear violation of national laws and international agreements. We hold the Houthi group fully responsible for the safety of all abducted members of the General People’s Congress Party, the Ba’ath Party, and other Yemeni political parties. We call for their immediate and unconditional release, and for an end to all repressive practices targeting activists, politicians, journalists, and members of civil society.
We also express our solidarity with the families of the newly abducted, who now join thousands of Yemeni families suffering for years from the forced disappearance of their loved ones in prisons without any legal or humanitarian oversight. We renew our call to the United Nations, its Special Envoy, and all international human rights organizations, through our campaign “Save the Abductees,” to put maximum pressure on the Houthi group to release all abductees and stop its violations.
We reject the use of abduction as a tool for political retaliation. We call on all national forces and Yemeni society to stand together against these violations and to work for building a state that respects human dignity and protects rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and the law.
