Joint Statement on the Occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances

On the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance, the Abductees’ Mothers Association, together with the Justice for Yemen Pact Coalition and around 20 human rights organizations, raised their voices in solidarity with the thousands of victims of enforced disappearance and their families, who live with the pain of loss and the uncertainty of waiting.

They called on international sponsors of Yemen’s peace talks to prioritize the issue of the forcibly disappeared in negotiations to end the country’s crisis. They stressed that any transitional justice process must include the formation of a national committee to search for the disappeared, address their situation, and support their families.

They further urged the establishment of an international committee to investigate crimes committed against the disappeared, to ensure that evidence is not lost and cases are preserved for use in future transitional justice opportunities.
