The Abductees’ Mothers Association meets with the Minister of Legal Affairs in Aden

The Abductees’ Mothers Association met in Aden with the Minister of Legal Affairs, Mrs. Ishraq Al-Maqtari, to discuss a number of issues related to the file of abductees and forcibly disappeared persons.

The Association called for the establishment of a specific legal framework criminalizing enforced disappearance and torture. It also urged follow-up on the cases of detainees who have completed their prison sentences and have received judicial release orders, yet remain in detention due to the imposition of excessive financial fines by judicial authorities. The Association demanded their immediate release.

In addition, the Association called for the formation of a specialized oversight and follow-up committee to uncover the fate of abductees, detainees, and forcibly disappeared persons, including the Public Prosecutor and the Minister of Legal Affairs. The Association affirmed its readiness to join oversight committees in order to contribute to addressing this file in a serious and lawful manner.

The Association stressed the importance of relevant authorities listening to the suffering of abductees and their families through regular meetings to stay informed of developments and to facilitate families’ access to judicial authorities.

It also called for the activation of laws that protect monitors and those documenting grave violations committed against civilians in various fields, and for the establishment of confidential reporting channels that enable families and victims to submit complaints and testimonies without fear or hesitation. The Association reaffirmed its continued efforts, through all available means, to advocate for abductees and forcibly disappeared persons until they are released, their suffering and that of their families ends, they are reunited with their loved ones, perpetrators of violations are held accountable, and victims receive justice and reparation.
