Voluntary relocation through community consensus: new success for the Abductees’ Mothers Association in Ma’rib

The Abductees’ Mothers Association held a dialogue session on Tuesday, May 12, titled:
“Activating voluntary relocation solutions for displaced persons residing along the University of Saba Region road plan – Al-Mail area,” as part of the Supporting Peace in Yemen through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge Sharing (SPARK) project, implemented in cooperation with SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties and in partnership with DT Institute.

The session was attended by the Director of the Executive Unit, Mr. Saif Muthanna; Northern Sector Officer Mr. Ibrahim Shannah; Mr. Ahmed Al-Qufaili; the Director of Projects at the University of Saba Region, Mr. Saleh Al-Ghuwaibi; Northern Sector Security Official Fandam Abdo Darweesh; as well as a number of displaced residents living in the area and representatives of relevant stakeholders. Participants discussed mechanisms for implementing voluntary relocation solutions in a manner that preserves the dignity of affected families and promotes fair and sustainable humanitarian responses that take into account the living and humanitarian conditions of the targeted households.

The session emphasized the importance of strengthening community understanding and coordination between the concerned authorities and displaced persons to ensure that relocation measures are carried out safely and consensually, while minimizing any potential humanitarian consequences. At the end of the session, the displaced residents signed a document titled “Record of Voluntary Evacuation and Handover Confirmation,” affirming their commitment to the outcomes and understandings reached during the dialogue.

The displaced families also called for the provision of container housing units for beneficiary households, requesting that each family receive two containers due to large family sizes and the high number of household members, in order to secure a minimum level of stability and privacy during the upcoming period.
