While the whole world celebrates International Women’s Day, we, at Abductees’ Mothers Association, are receiving many reports and calls for help from women whose houses have been stormed by Houthi armed group, forcibly driving the residents, who are mainly women and children, out of their homes.
Facing women forced displacement with silence from women’s rights organizations is utterly intolerable. The increasing violations of human rights, including abduction, torture, and forced displacement, are supposed to be condemned by all Yemenis. Yemeni women must be protected and their rights must be preserved.
As such violations have repeatedly occurred, we, at Abductees’ Mothers Association, demand Houthi armed group to show Yemeni women the respect and honor they deserve, and to protect their dignity. Women have endured the war agonies, and been able to preserve social peace, by holding on to their faith in their country and its peace. They have been active at humanitarian aid programs and human rights protection efforts. It is their basic right to feel safe at their houses.
We call upon the United Nations, whose one of its main concerns is women’s rights, to continue creating the necessary pressure to protect Yemeni women and their rights, to make the needed efforts to form feminine association that defend women in Yemen, and to abide by its commitments towards them according to the UN’s laws, agreements, and resolutions.
