The Abductees’ Mothers Association visited the family of the abductee, Najeeb Hassan Ali Fare’a Al-Onaini, immediately after receiving a notification about a call informing them of the presence of Najeeb’s body. Najeeb was abducted by the Houthi group on February 22, 2017, during their raid on the village of Al-Dabah in the Al-Rubaiee district of Taiz Governorate, where they arrested several villagers.
The Houthi group forcibly abducted and hidden Najeeb in their prisons without disclosing his location, despite his family’s continuous search in Houthi prisons in Dhamar and Sana’a. The family never received any contact from Najeeb during his years of disappearance.
The family informed the Association’s team that they received a call from the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 18, 2024, notifying them of Najeeb’s body being found in Dhamar Hospital. This news came as a profound shock as they were hoping for negotiations leading to Najeeb’s release.
Najeeb’s wife recounted that the Houthi group stormed their house, forcefully taking Najeeb after hitting him on the chest with a rifle and pointing the weapon at her while she tried to defend him. Their 14-year-old daughter later died from kidney failure and liver disease, a result of the trauma from her father’s abduction. Their 16-year-old son developed diabetes out of fear of being abducted by the Houthis, and Najeeb’s father passed away a month after his son’s abduction.
The wife confirmed that the photo of Najeeb they received, showing him deceased, was identical to how he looked on the day of his abduction, wearing the same clothes, indicating that he died on the same day he was taken. The news of his death was hidden throughout his disappearance.
The Abductees’ Mothers Association condemns and denounces all practices and violations against abductees by the Houthi group, which has led to the deaths of over 80 abductees without deterrence. They demand an urgent investigation into the increasing number of deaths under torture recently, the apprehension of the perpetrators, and their prosecution with the penalties prescribed by law and constitution.
The Association also calls for the unconditional release of all abductees to end their suffering and that of their families.
