After More Than Two Weeks of Enforced Disappearance, the Houthi Group Continues to Refuse the Release of Lawyer Abdul Majid Sabrah

Lawyer Abdul Majid Sabrah, a distinguished attorney known for his humanitarian advocacy, enters his eighteenth day of enforced disappearance in the prisons of the Houthi group in Sana’a. The group continues its intransigence, ignoring all appeals and calls for his release.

We, at the Abductees’ Mothers Association, speaking on behalf of all survivors of Houthi prisons whom the esteemed lawyer has defended, strongly condemn his abduction and enforced disappearance, an act that constitutes a flagrant violation of all laws and humanitarian norms.

The abduction of lawyer Sabrah, renowned for his courageous defense of detainees and the forcibly disappeared, is not merely an assault on his person. It represents a systematic and direct attack on human rights work as a whole, and a desperate attempt to silence voices of justice and undermine the sacred right to defense guaranteed by all international conventions and national constitutions.

We call on the Houthi group to immediately and unconditionally release lawyer Sabrah and all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons, holding the group fully responsible for his life and safety.

We also urge all lawyers and local and international human rights organizations to take a firm stand to protect human rights defenders and to uphold the rule of law against the Houthi group’s arbitrary practices.
