For years on end, the abductees languish in prisons, enduring greater hardships. Their plight has stagnated, reduced to a mere political bargaining chip, disregarding the fundamental truth that the issue of our abducted loved ones is purely a humanitarian one. They are civilians who were abducted from their homes and places of work.
We, in the Abductees’ Mothers Association, will not falter in defending the cause of the arbitrarily detained, hidden captives who endure all forms of violations in both official and unofficial detention centers with impunity.
We affirm that the primary step towards comprehensive peace in the country is the unconditional release of the abductees, putting an end to their suffering and that of their families.
We hold all parties fully responsible for the lives and safety of our abductees, hidden captives, and arbitrarily detained loved ones. We call for an end to their prolonged suffering, some of whom have been held for over eight years without legal justification, urging for their immediate unconditional release.
Furthermore, we, in the Abductees’ Mothers Association, denounce the lack of respect for human rights and international laws, reaching the point of failing to protect human rights defenders, exemplified by the case of lawyer “Sami Yassin Al-Sharjabi” in Aden, who is currently detained and tortured, following previous threats against him while he was advocating for the abductees, as stated in a previous statement issued by his family through the Abductees’ Mothers Association. These incidents and their recurrence obscure the truth and exacerbate the cycle of violations, all stemming from the impunity of the perpetrators and their evasion of accountability.
We call upon the United Nations and its envoy, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, local and international organizations, and all human rights and media alliances to exert pressure for the establishment of peace, making the immediate relief of the abductees, hidden captives, arbitrarily detained, and their families a top priority.
