Statement by Abductees Mothers Association Condemning the Ongoing Violations Against the Abducted and Demanding Their Release

Abductees’ Mothers Association expresses its deep sorrow and condemnation of the continued suffering of their sons who have been arbitrarily abducted, detained, and forcibly disappeared in various prisons across the Republic of Yemen for years. The persistence of this suffering and the continued neglect of the case of our abducted sons through constant delays have only exacerbated their detention and worsened their conditions in prison.

There are still 549 abductees, 199 forcibly disappeared, and 31 arbitrarily detained individuals languishing in prisons, primarily those belonging to Houthi armed group, the Security Belt Forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council, and the forces of the legitimate government. This has exacerbated their suffering and that of their families, who live in harsh and unbearable conditions.

We, Abductees’ Mothers Association, call upon the international community, all human rights organizations, and all those concerned with this issue to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and to work towards the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees, forcibly disappeared, and arbitrarily detained individuals, especially those suffering from illnesses.
We also appeal to all local parties and call upon national and international mediators, especially the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, to intensify their efforts to resolve this humanitarian file urgently and end the suffering of these abductees.

The silence of the international and regional community regarding these practices against the abductees – the latest of which is the mysterious death of the abductee Khalid Mohammed Abu Saeed in Houthi prisons – encourages the continuation of these crimes against the abductees, which amount to war crimes.

Abductees’ Mothers Association will not tire of demanding the rights of their sons, the foremost of which is their freedom and their safe return to the embrace of their families. We affirm that the case of our sons is a humanitarian issue that requires a final and urgent solution.
