The Association of Abductees’ Mothers participates in a human rights statement by 42 organizations, demanding an end to blocking and censorship of the Internet in Yemen

The Association of Abductees’ Mothers, in collaboration with with 42 local and international organizations, participated in a joint statement condemning the ongoing blocking and censorship of the Internet in Yemen, and demanding immediate action to put an end to these disturbing violations of digital freedoms, right to access information, and the right to demonstrate and protest.

The statement called the authorities in Yemen to remember that the rights to freedom of expression and to peaceful assembly are guaranteed under Articles (19) and (21) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights ratified by the Republic of Yemen.

The statement also called on the “Houthi group”, as the de-facto authority in Sana’a, to stop the measures of cutting off the Internet and lifting the ban on news websites, social media platforms, and messaging applications in Yemen immediately, in accordance with Yemen’s obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
