Urgent report issued by family of Asaad Al-Wayel calling to save his life after severe health deterioration due to hunger strike.

Abductees’ Mothers Association received an urgent report from the family of the abductee, Asa’ad Abdu Ahmed Al-Wa’yel, 26, stating that his health had severely deteriorated after he had gone on a hunger strike for 50 days, in protest against his abduction and in demand of his release. The hunger strike was started after he had been subjected to torture by Houthi armed group at Political Security Prison in Ibb, which led to chronic pain in his spine and nerve pain, according to his family.

Houthi armed group abducted Asa’ad Abdu Ahmed Al-Wa’yel on March 30th, 2017, while he was on his way back from Sana’a to his village to prepare for his wedding, which was supposed to be held 4 days after his return. However, Houthis succeeded at robbing his happiness before his wedding.

At Abductees’ Mothers Association, we hold Houthi armed group’s officers at Political Security Prison in Ibb fully responsible for the life and safety of Al-Wa’yel, and demand his immediate release in order to save his life, especially after the 50-days-long hunger strike.

We condemn preventing visits of Al-Wa’yel, which was imposed to break the strike he had started to acquire his freedom.

We call upon the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights to mount the needed pressure upon Houthis in order to release and save Al-Wa’yel.
