Urgent report of Abductees Mothers Association condemning systematic violations against abductees at Security and Intelligence Penitentiary in Sana’a

In an urgent report received by Abductees’ Mothers Association, it was stated that the administration of Security and Intelligence Penitentiary, located at Shamlan area, Sana’a, had confiscated all abductees’ belongings, including their food, clothes and blankets, despite the severe cold weather.

Abductees were only left with the clothes they were wearing. Additionally, the food families bring in their fortnight visits was left to rot, and family members themselves has been subjected to constant violations and assaults.

Since Houthi group held a celebration on September 21st, 2021 at the penitentiary, and pressuring abductees to participate in their chants and educational sessions, which abductees refused to be part of, abductees have been subjected to systematic violations and mistreatment, including being locked with dangerous prisoners from Al-Qaeda.

At Abductees’ Mothers Association, we condemn the violations against our abducted sons held at Security and Intelligence Penitentiary, especially during this cold weather and the outbreak of fevers and diseases. We, also, condemn Houthis armed group’s non-compliance to the international and national laws, and hold it completely accountable for the lives and safety of our abducted sons.

We call upon the ICRC, OHCHR and all human rights organizations, locally and internationally, to urgently intervene in order to stop the inhuman constant violations against our abducted sons, and to mount the needed pressure to release them and grant their safety in order to end their and their families’ suffering.
